# What is FireShonks?

FireShonks is a remote event that takes place “between the years” (German expression), i.e. between Christmas 2023 and New Years Eve. It is organised by [r3s](https://r3s.nrw/) (remote-rhein-ruhr-stage) and the [Haecksen](https://www.haecksen.org/) and takes place in parallel and independently of the [CCCongress](https://events.ccc.de/congress/) 2023.

The event offers a platform for online talks and workshops. Talks can be pre-recorded or broadcast live. Speakers can give their talks live on stage in Wülfrath or stream them from the comfort of their own home. Afterwards, the videos will be released on [media.ccc.de](http://media.ccc.de/). Workshops will take place live in a BigBlueBlutton and will usually not be recorded.

We are a small team of people who care about infection control as well as inclusion and internationality. Therefore, we think it makes sense to continue to offer remote events, even if there will be more diverse on-site events again.

Talks and workshops can take place completely remotely or on a small stage on site in Wülfrath (in the [WIR-Haus](https://wir-wuelfrath.de/wir-haus/)), i.e. the speakers can also be on site, but the audience stays at home.
A small team of about 20 people is needed on site in Wülfrath to take care of the stage and the streaming technology. For this we are looking for energetic and committed support. Heralding and other tasks can also take place remotely.
